Rev John Mitchell has posted this sermon:
'He is not here; he has risen! Remember how he told you, while he was still with you in Galilee: "The Son of Man must be delivered over to the hands of sinners, be crucified and on the third day be raised again." (Luke 24:6-7)
On their way to the tomb the women expected the obvious as we also would have done. With heavy hearts they make their way to the tomb emptied of any hope now that Jesus had gone. But what they expected turned into the unexpected. The tomb was open. Two men suddenly stood beside them in clothes that gleamed. They said, he is not here; he has risen! ...... This is the greatest turning point the world has ever known. Their darkness lifted and so will ours in these difficult times. The tomb could not hold him, and neither can the closed doors of our churches. With Jesus you can always expect the unexpected.
God of love and grace, we remember with the church world-wide the story that overcame the darkness that often seeks to take us down. We pray for all touched by the current situation and place our hope in the unexpected power of Jesus Christ our Lord and Saviour.
